How To Treat Red Thread Disease

One of the causes of red thread, and a contributor to its severity, is poor, under-nourished turf, so your first line of defense is to give your grass regular care. If red thread disease continues to be a problem in your lawn, treat it with a fungicide. Like other lawn diseases, red thread will likely leave behind some damaged areas that may need to be patched. The easiest solution is to use a three-in-one seed repair once you have the disease under control.

Will Vinegar Kill Lawn Fungus

Vinegar contains a strong, acetic acid that helps it kill and damage fungus. It can definitely be used to treat fungal diseases in a lawn. However, you need to use it in moderation, as vinegar can be strong enough to damage your lawn.

You should dilute the vinegar with some other ingredients when using it as a fungicide. Combine 2 tablespoons of vinegar, 3 tablespoons hydrogen peroxide, 3 tablespoons baking powder and 2 quarts of water. Mix the ingredients and then spray the infected area.

Or how about baking soda? Sodium bicarbonate can help control fungus from household plants to yard ornamentals. Be careful with application as too much will increase the soils pH levels. Mix one tablespoon of baking soda with a gallon of water. Spray affected areas every three days until the mold or fungus is gone.

These last two options work to both smother some plant pests and keep fungus in check.

• Milk normal milk mixed with water sprayed in the lawn can also be very effective to kill all the fungus in the lawn as milk contains amino acids and salts which kills and controls the fungus in the lawn. Take milk and water in the ratio of 1:9 and spray the solution once a month in the lawn.

A healthy lawn is a stronger lawn and will be better able to withstand fungal diseases like brown patch. Follow these guidelines:
