Mildew can be found on many different surfaces. It is a thin, black, or sometimes white, growth produced by mold. Molds are simple plants belonging to the group known as fungi. Though molds are always present in the air, those that cause mildew need moisture and certain temperatures to grow. They commonly develop in humid summer weather, especially in closed houses.
These molds grow on anything from which they can get enough food. In homes they develop most often on cotton, linen, rayon, silk, wool, leather, wood and paper. Many synthetic fibers resist mildew.
Molds that cause mildew flourish wherever it is damp, warm, poorly lighted and/or where air is not circulated in cellars, crawl spaces of houses without basements and clothing closets. It can also be found on draperies and rugs in basement recreation rooms, on shower curtains and on damp clothes rolled up for ironing. These molds are also likely to grow in a new house because of moisture in the building materials.

How Can You Prevent The Appearance Of Mold
The best solution against mold is its prevention. The mold is not neglected and you must do everything possible to prevent its occurrence in the home.
There are a few simple methods by which you can keep your mold away from your home:
- ventilate the rooms: it is advisable to ventilate the rooms at least twice a day to eliminate the moisture accumulated inside the house. Getting Rid Of Mold With Baking Soda
You can also use baking soda for other purposes, such as clearing black mold apart from its everyday use to relieve heartburns and absorbing odors in fridges. Again, the product is safe for use since its less toxic, kills black mold, and absorbs moisture that might attract the mold.
The procedure includes adding at least a quarter a tablespoon of baking soda in a spray bottle with water, then shaking until you realize that it has completely dissolved.
After this, spray the affected area with the solution, then scrub the surface with a soft scrub brush to remove the mold from the wood surface. After washing the surface, rinse it with clean water to remove the remaining baking powder and any other residue.
Finally, youll have to respray the area with the baking soda solution then allow it to dry without wiping. Doing this will ensure that no left mold survives and prevents any possibility of future growth.
What if your wood is highly infested with tough black mold. In such cases, consider mixing a baking soda, white vinegar, and water solution in the ratio of 2:1:1. After mixing, thoroughly stir the mixture to get a thick paste solution.
Next, youll gently spread the mixture onto the affected area then allow it to dry, after which you can scrub away any stains and black mold before wiping down with water.

White Mold On Wood Paneling
If you live in a quite warm climate or have recently moved into a property that stood vacant for some time, you may encounter white mold on your wood paneling.
Previous incomplete removal of white mold may also cause some growth to re-emerge on your wood paneling.
While the mold probably wont cause too much physical damage since its just paneling, it can cause unsightly cosmetic damage that would require covering or replacing.
It can also cause a very unpleasant, musty smell to permeate your whole home.
