Natural Ways To Get Rid Of Toenail Fungus
One of the most dreaded and, lets face it, a disgusting ailment is toenail fungus . As most who read my blogs know, I usually write about topics that I have experienced personally and/or observed in patients. Well, for this one, it is both. For years, one of my toes would become afflicted, Id treat it, and then a year or two later, it would return.
The truth is that fungus is among us! You may view yourself as one with good hygiene, but even you are loaded with fungus on your skin. Fungus does not need much to overgrow and is exceedingly difficult to get rid of when it does. The three changes in our local skin environment that cause it to grow are 1. A decrease in good bacteria , since bacteria can suppress its growth 2. Excessive water/moisture 3. Sugar.
But to get fungus on your nail, a few things must happen. Diabetics, because of elevated sugar, are at higher risk. However, many, like myself, who dont have diabetes, are still prime targets. Thats because of what I call the blotter effect. To understand this effect, imagine the following scenario. You are sitting behind a wooden desk with a glass blotter on top to protect the surface. You place a cup of water on the blotter and turn to work on your computer. As you turn, your elbow knocks over youre cup, and the water spills over the edge of the desk. You then see some water track itself under the blotter.
The following natural approaches will work whether you have taken a medication or not .
How To Apply Eucalyptus Oil For Toenail Fungus
To apply the eucalyptus oil to your toe, you will need a few drops of olive oil and a cotton ball.
- Mix a few drops of eucalyptus oil with the olive oil and soak the cotton ball in the mixture. Now gently press the cotton ball on the affected toenail and allow the oil to soak in underneath the nail.
- Repeat this action at least 3-4 times a day for the best results.
You can even use eucalyptus oil to create a foot soak.
- Simply throw in a few drops of eucalyptus oil to a bucket of warm water and add some epsom salts to the solution. You wont need a carrier oil as the water will dilute the potency of the eucalyptus oil.
- Mix this solution with your hand till the salt dissolves and soak your foot in the mix for at least 15 minutes. Soak your foot at least twice a day to get rid of the toenail fungus quickly.
Be sure to clip your nails and shorten them as much as possible without hurting yourself. This way, whether you soak your foot or apply the oil directly, the solution will seep into the nail bed beneath the nail and work effectively on the fungus.

While neem oil can be applied directly to skin, I dont recommend this for anything except your nails as both neem oil and tea tree oil can be overly drying. However, if you want a super speedy cold sore home remedy, reduce the tea tree oil to 6 drops and the lavender, eucalyptus and peppermint essential oils to 2 drops each. Then apply solution directly to cold sore. It will literally almost disappear overnight.

Purification And Spectral Identification Of Nimonol
The used HPLC linear gradient solvent which consisted of a mixture from methanol and water permitted the separation of the pure compound contained in peak no. 7 and which was subjected to NMR spectral analysis for the complete identification.
The 1H-NMR signals of nimonol were at 7.38 m 7.26 m 6.29 m 7.12 d, J= 10.06 Hz 5.90 d, J= 10.06 Hz 5.42 dd, J = 1.82, 2.84 Hz , 2.05 . The 1HNMR spectrum showed also three methane protons at 2.21 d J = 11.65 Hz 4.38 dd, J = 11.65Hz and 2.37 and 535d, J= 2.37 Hz . Coupling of the last three methane protons was recorded in correlated spectroscopy where the proton at 2.21 had cross peaks with that at 4.38 whereas the proton at 4.38 had cross peaks with those at 2.21, 5.31 in addition to the proton at 5.36 with that at 4.38. The COSY spectrum also showed the presence of the characteristic group -CH-CHOH-CHOAc on a cyclohexane ring system.
The 12C-NMR spectrum of nimonol revealed the presence of an important signal which corresponds to the olefinic bond between C-14 at 158.51 ppm and C-15 at 119.54 ppm and which are characteristic for this class of compounds. The complete 1H- 13C-NMR spectral data are represented in .
Activity Of Aqueous Extract
The 5 % aqueous leaf extract of neem caused an inhibition in growth of the six test fungal pathogens. The highest one was recorded on A. niger while the lowest , was on C. albicans . A concentration of 10% moderately inhibited the growth of all test fungi with the highest value recorded on A. niger and the lowest on C. albicans . An inhibition by 86.22% was recorded on the growth of A. niger compared with 38.44% in the growth of M. gypseum , when the neem leaf aqueous extraxt was assayed at a concentration of 15%. These ratios of inhibition jumped to 100 % and 53.66% in the growth of A. niger and M. gypseum during the assay with the 20% concentration.

Neem Oil and InsectsMixed in a base of coconut oil, neem shows promise as a reliable mosquito repellent. It can be applied directly to the skin though studies show it is more effective when blended with coconut oil. Dont count on neem to work all day like DEET would. Findings From Studies Involving Humans
Two earlier studies investigated the effects of tea tree oil on nail fungus in humans.
A found that tea tree oil applied directly to toenail fungus is as effective as clotrimazole cream. Clotrimazole is an antifungal cream available on prescription or from a pharmacy.
A study published in 1999 investigated whether an antifungal cream containing tea tree oil could help manage toenail fungus. The researchers used tea tree oil alone as a placebo. Participants applied either the combination cream or the placebo for 16 weeks.
The combination cream completely cured the nail fungus in 80% of the participants. However, none of the people who used the tea tree alone saw any improvement. This suggests that tea tree oil alone may not be an effective treatment for nail fungus.

There are multiple treatments for toenail fungus, though some are faster than others. The fastest way to eliminate the infection is through toenail laser treatment. Laser nail therapy specifically targets the microorganisms under your nail while leaving the keratin intact. In just a few treatments, the infection can be entirely eliminated. This allows your toenail to regrow healthy, clear keratin that then pushes out the old, discolored, damaged areas.
Traditional fungal nail treatments take a little longer to work. Topical medications have to be applied every day to the infected nails for as long as it takes to destroy the infectionwhich can be months. Oral medication is more efficient, since it travels through the blood stream to combat the fungus. Depending on your situation, you may have to take pills for a few weeks to a few months.
Why Eucalyptus Oil To Treat Toenail Fungus
With its origins in Australia, eucalyptus oil has been used for decades to treat a variety of skin care infections. It is known for its antibacterial and antifungal properties, and is so makes it a very effective natural remedy to treat toenail fungus.
Another reason why eucalyptus oil is so effective in treating nail fungus is because of its ability to blend well with other antifungal essential oils. On its own, eucalyptus oil is extremely potent and must be diluted before it is applied directly on the skin. So to make this treatment effective, youll need to dilute the eucalyptus oil in a carrier oil like olive oil or sunflower oil.

Beneficial Earthworms Wont Be Harmed
While traditional chemical pesticides can harm earthworms, neem oil has the opposite effect by encouraging earthworm activity.
Why is this important? Earthworms are beneficial to garden soil. As they tunnel though the dirt, they create pathways that allow air and rain water to reach plant roots. These little guys also leave behind excrement, known as casts, that contain nutrients for the soil, including potassium, nitrogen and phosphorous. When earthworms die, their decaying bodies also help fertilize the soil

This week Id like to talk about fungal infections.
While not the strangest thing Ive ever said through my career, wanting to discuss fungal problems is certainly up there with some of the most unusual. Fungal infections, as unsavoury as they may sound, are a fascinating topic, though.
